The first article: the basics of custom furniture
Whole house custom furniture refers to: based on the environment and size of the customer's home, combined with the customer's living habits, using boards (including solid wood boards) and hardware accessories, using relevant technology to customize personalized furniture that is extremely suitable for their home environment and people-oriented needs.

Interpretation: Here are several important points: the structure and size of the customer's house; The level of development of market technology (furniture construction process, plate making process, hardware technology). These two parts form the basic conditions of custom furniture, and personalized customization is based on these hard foundations, rather than random customization.

Custom furniture throughout the house

The material basis of whole-house customization is plates and hardware.

First, the four elements of the plate: static zone strength, water absorption expansion rate, formaldehyde release, and screw holding force

1. Static zone strength: The static bending strength is the ratio of the bending moment and the modulus of the bending section of the specimen when the maximum load is applied. It is the pressure strength that the wood-based panel can withstand when it is bent to fracture, which is expressed in Mpa.

To put it bluntly, the boards used in your cabinets (especially the shelves for heavy objects and the door panels that are too high) will not bend or even break after a long time.

For example, this shoe cabinet is very good-looking, typical minimalist Nordic style. But look at its base (that is, the wood-colored part), so long, and there is such a large cabinet pressed on it, how long can the top plate of this base bear? Even if there is no cabinet on it, such a long board, without any support in the middle, will collapse and deform after a long time.
Of course, this cabinet is not the common custom cabinets on the market, it has a special process treatment, and our general custom cabinets should not take the liberty of learning such practices.

Look at this bookcase again, the red circled part, the stressed shelves are too long. Especially when making bookcases, it is best not to exceed the width of 600mm for shelves. The shelves of the wardrobe should generally not exceed 900mm wide.

2. Water absorption expansion rate: according to the method specified in the standard, a certain amount of sample is intercepted and immersed in water, and after soaking for a certain time, the measured thickness difference before and after water absorption is the ratio of the thickness before immersion.

It refers to the degree of expansion of the plate sample in water for two hours, this data represents whether your cabinet is "moisture-proof", and the expansion rate is less than 7% is qualified.

Please note that moisture-proof generally refers to long-term exposure to a space with high air moisture content (such as kitchens, bathrooms, closed balconies), and the cabinet will not swell and deform and affect the force balance of the cabinet and the nail holding force of the hardware hinge, not that it is not afraid of water.

Are there any plates that are not afraid of water?

No!!!

Any board, no matter what type, which brand, what kind of process is afraid of water!

So what if you want to make cabinets in the kitchen, bathroom, closed balcony?

There are two main categories of options:

If you want to be completely afraid of water, make brick/cement, or monolithic stainless steel cabinets.
Generally, panel cabinets are made in these spaces, and the floor will be made of stainless steel or rubber base, and the countertop will be made of stainless steel or stone countertop. The middle part of the cabinet pays attention to two points: 1. Whether the cabinet plate meets the water absorption expansion rate (7%) stipulated by the state; 2: Edge banding process: observe whether the edge banding is smooth, whether there is overflow and burr, whether it falls off, etc. (If the edge sealing is not good, it is easy to cause water vapor to enter, so that the inside of the plate swells, which will be discussed later)

Panel custom cabinetry
For today's custom-made furniture (especially cabinets), moisture protection is one of the most basic requirements. The dominant melamine veneer in custom furniture. Melamine paper itself is never water-permeable. In the case that the edge banding and the substrate are not too bad, the moisture protection problem can not be too worried. If you buy a branded custom cabinet, moisture-proof is basically not a problem, at most ask your friends, or check the brand's reputation online.

3. Grip screw force: To put it bluntly, after the screw is nailed into the plate, it is not easy to loosen, fall off, and burst.

For example, the cabinet mentioned above, why the use of stone is more and more out of the mainstream choice, is because its hardness is absolutely high, but the toughness is poor, and the nail holding force is weak. The cabinets at home are often used for one or two decades, and the strength of the nail grip means that the hinges will not be loose or even fall, the drawer screws will be loose, and the cabinet structure will not be deformed.

The more intuitive detection method is whether the cabinet door can be opened and sat on:

Although this method is not rigorous, and the load-bearing of the cabinet door drawer has a lot to do with the quality of the hinges and drawer tracks, it is indeed the most simple and direct way. I believe that if the brand dares to do this, the nail holding power of the plate and the basic hardware will not be too bad.

4. Formaldehyde emissions: This will not be explained, to put it bluntly, it is environmentally friendly.

Environmental protection must be paid attention to, but it is currently being hyped too violently. So that a lot of conceptual terms have been derived, from the dispute between the national standard and the European standard, the dispute between E0 and E1, to the recent concept of formaldehyde-free, people's attention has been drawn to environmental protection, and even limited to the word "formaldehyde", which is not wrong, but too extreme.

Here is a little explanation, the national standard is our domestic environmental protection standard for plates, the European standard is the European standard, are an environmental protection standard; E0 and E1, and some Japanese F4 stars and the like, is the level of environmental protection, which will be talked about later.

For example, if you put too much salt in a dish, it will definitely be salty, then the dish is definitely not a good dish, but you can't say that as long as the dish is just salted, it must be a good dish.

This example is not accurate in some aspects, after all, more salt is a little salty at most, but more formaldehyde can be fatal, and when cooking, salt is essential, but when home decoration, it is best not to have formaldehyde at all (although it is not realistic).

Then let's take a detailed look at the formaldehyde problem of custom furniture panels:

First of all, I would like to introduce you to an organization: the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China.

Don't blindly believe in European standards, Japanese F4 star standards, these things are managed by this agency in China, in other words, this organization has the final right to interpret these standards.

What does the final explanation look like?

The regulations were updated in May last year, but there is no change in the basic standards
In other words, there is no E0 in the national mandatory environmental protection standards, but the concept of E0 actually exists. Therefore, about E0, it can be understood that it only represents a formaldehyde emission (measured by dryer method, less than 0.5mg/L), rather than a legal environmental protection level.

(Update) the current implementation of some countries and regions of the board environmental protection inspection standards:

In recent years, the state has been particularly strict in environmental protection inspections - this aspect has also led to a lot of furniture prices, so as long as it is a big brand board, you can basically rest assured. Some customers said that in 14 years, 15 years, the projection of five or six hundred and one square can be done, and now the projection is in eight or nine hundred, if you use a good door panel or solid wood door panel, it is three or four thousand side, and it has risen too fast, so it can be regarded as a pro or cons bars.

Famous European brands are: EGGER (EGGER, the so-called European standard E1, E2 level was first formulated by its brand, and then gradually absorbed into the European unified standard), Kronoseb.

Regarding the environmental protection issues that everyone is seriously concerned about, here is a little more talk:
1. In fact, formaldehyde is not the only substance for indoor pollution, but it is the hottest point to be fried. Indoor pollution also needs to be concerned about TVOC (total volatile organic compounds), benzene, ammonia, radon, etc.

Benzene series include pure benzene and toluene, which are very toxic, and xylene, which is less toxic. It is a strong carcinogen, long-term inhalation can cause aplastic anemia, and even further cause leukemia, and it is more harmful to women, long-term inhalation of women can lead to menstrual disorders, increase the probability of pregnancy complications in pregnant women, and even lead to fetal birth defects. The state stipulates that the indoor benzene concentration must be less than 0.11mg/m³.
